zucchini flowers... |
It has been quite a scramble to get this months newsletter together….so much to do so little time (where did this month go??) So there was a mercy dash to last week’s Noosa Farmers Market to scout out some new products for you. The Noosa Farmers Market is now on weekly which is an absolute bonus especially for those who live near by as you can just about do your whole grocery shop there. Of course now I am almost penniless as I am not one for self restraint when it comes to good food and in the name of sacrifice for the Local Harvest newsletter I felt obligated to buy almost everything I set my greedy little eyes on – so last week we dined like kings…this week we will have to settle for stale bread and water because I broke the poor old grocery kitty’s back! Firstly for the fresh; I managed to pick up some zucchini flowers. I have seen them there most times so they seem to be in pretty constant supply. They are wonderful stuffed with cheese and deep fried or sautéed in a little butter and garlic. There were also lots of fresh greens and tomatoes. I love the cherry tomatoes still clinging to their vines, so easy to roast just as they are and drizzle with a little olive oil. Of course there are still plenty of strawberries around, there were even some chocolate dipped ones! |

ruby grapefruit... |
Cedar Creek Farm had an abundance of Ruby Grapefruit which is such a refreshing fruit. I have never been a big fan of grapefruit as my mum’s idea of a healthy breakfast was grapefruit sprinkled with sugar – to me it didn’t seem to matter how much sugar it had heaped on it, it didn’t seem to take the bitterness away and make it taste any better…so I am pleased to announce that Cedar Creek’s Ruby Grapefruit are not at all like that; they are much sweeter and really are refreshing. So for those of you who like to punish yourself with the grapefruit breaky akin to my mother…. these are not at all punishing! I like to scatter a few segments in my salads and visually they are beautiful as well. |

For markets in your area have a look on our Markets page. If making a special trip it doesn’t hurt to ring and confirm times - they may have changed and my crystal ball isn’t always 100% reliable although we do try to be as accurate as possible. |
